Social engagement

It is important to us to support organizations and projects from the university environment that focus on innovation, student or social engagement. Currently we support two associations at the universities of Basel, Bern and Zurich with refurbished laptops. 

If you want to do something good with your old laptop, please contact us. We will arrange to take over your old device, delete your data free of charge and prepare the device for use in the two projects presented.

Offener Hörsaal

In fall 2020, we were asked by the association Offener Hörsaal at the University of Basel if we could donate laptops for students. The project enables refugees and asylum seekers from the Basel region, who have already studied in their country of origin or are interested in studying, to attend lectures and a language course at the Language Center of the University of Basel as listeners. The need was particularly acute due to the switch to online instruction.

Thanks to a laptop donation from the library of ETH Zurich, we were able to refurbish eight laptops. All devices were upgraded with RAM and SSD from Samsung. A second laptop delivery with a total of five refurbished devices went to the association Offener Hörsaal of the University of Bern in February 2021, in collaboration with SUB. Since then, various other laptops have been donated and free support was offered at our Help Points.

SEET - Support Education, Empower Together

Since 2022 we support the association SEET- Support Education, Empower Together. This is a study support program that targets refugee women and supports them in the form of mentoring. Our six donated laptops have been in use since fall 2022. We are planning more donations towards the 2023/24 academic year.
