Old data, temporary files and unused apps can slow down your laptop. Especially accumulated data junk can negatively affect the performance of your laptop. This data junk needlessly takes up storage space and slows down performance. We will show you practical tips to improve the performance and speed of your system.

Disk Cleanup

One of the best tools for cleaning up your laptop is the Disk Cleanup feature built into Windows. You can use this tool for example to delete temporary files, the recycle bin and old Windows update files with just a few clicks. These unnecessary data often occupy several GB of disk space.

Press the Windows key and search for "Disk Cleanup" and select "Run as administrator". If you have more than one drive, you can select the one you want to clean.
Now you can select the files to be deleted in the tool by checking the corresponding checkbox. Be careful not to select all options, because you will also find the restore points of your system (you should not delete them!). Confirm with the "OK" button, and now this data will be deleted from your system.

Disable autostart programs

When your system starts, some selected programs are started automatically. This makes sense for programs that you use every day, however, sometimes there are programs in this list that you don't use often or don't need anymore. These programs slow down the startup of the system and block resources.

To clean up your Autostart, open the Task Manager with the key combination Ctrl(/Strg) & Shift & Esc. Now switch to the "Autostart" tab. All installed programs will be listed here. In the Status column you can see if they are enabled or disabled for Autostart. To exclude or add a program from the Autostart, right-click on "Enabled" or "Disabled" in the corresponding line and select the desired option in the context menu.

Delete unused apps and programs

Uninstall all apps and programs that you are sure not to use anymore. Otherwise, they will be loaded again and again, take away memory from your system and occupy storage space. Open the Windows Settings and select the Apps category. All installed programs are listed here. Left-click an app and then click the Uninstall button to delete an app.

Dusty fan

Over time, dust and hair collect in your fan, blocking the airflow. So your laptop starts to “suffocate" and overheats more easily. To protect itself from damage from overheating, your laptop will now start to throttle back on its performance. The same happens when you use it on your lap or the bed!

So always use your laptop on a hard surface and make sure that the ventilation is not blocked. If your laptop needs to be cleaned from dust, please contact us via email and we will clean your laptop fan for you at our Help Point!
