New Lenovo Devices Fall 2020: Refining the Black
3. 9. 2020

Lenovo Neptun Hardware

With the new Neptun lineup, all Lenovo devices now come either with Intel’s 10th Gen or with AMD’s Ryzen 4000 CPUs. Due to Lenovo dropping the WQHD display option, and the 4k options for the ultrabooks still being glossy (very glossy!), we’ve had to revert to FullHD displays for the X1 Carbon and the T14. The upside of the lower resolution are more power-efficient displays for these two devices.

All our Lenovo devices, except for the L13 Yoga, now come with Lenovo Premier onsite support. This makes it easier to open warranty cases, since you simply have to scan a QR code on the bottom of your device. Additionally, you’ll always deal with the same person during the warranty case, and you get preferential access to replacement parts.

Laptops

The ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 is the successor to the popular T490. It comes with the new and very powerful AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 4750U (Renoir) CPU with eight computing cores. Together with 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD, the T14 is a great choice for users with high performance needs, who don’t need a full-blown workstation. At just CHF 1’395.- the T14 offers a great cost-to-performance-ratio for office workers and engineering enthusiasts alike.

The AMD R7 CPU provides almost as much computing power as the previous 45 W TDP workstation CPUs but with only a 15 W TDP. The only downside with AMD based ThinkPads is the lack of Thunderbolt 3.

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen8 is a small upgrade to its predecessor and comes with a new Intel i7 quadcore (Comet Lake-U) CPU. With 16 GB RAM, a 1 TB SSD, long battery life, and an option to upgrade it with an LTE modem, the Carbon is ideally suited for work on the road, especially considering its low weight of 1.1 kg.

Convertibles

The ThinkPad L13 Yoga is still our most affordable machine in our PC laptop lineup. With an Intel i5 (Comet Lake-U), 16 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB SSD at just under CHF 1’000, it’s sufficiently powerful for most studies and won’t break the bank. The only change from last Spring’s model is a new SSD without Intel Optane, which simplifies the installation of Linux.

The ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen5 is similar to the X1 Carbon, since the only significant change from the fourth gen is the new Intel i7 (Comet Lake-U) CPU. Apart from that, the X1 Yoga is still a premium convertible with great build quality, fast hardware, a great, yet glossy 4k display and a digitizer pen that can be stored and charged inside the laptop. It is optionally available with an LTE modem, so you can stay connected on the road.

Workstations

The ThinkPad P1 Gen3 is a light and slim mobile workstation that packs some serious performance. With an Intel 10th gen i7 Comet Lake-H CPU with six cores, 32 GB of RAM, and a professional-grade Nvidia Quadro T2000 GPU, the P1 can handle heavy CAD projects, 4k video editing, and scientific calculations. It comes with a factory-calibrated 4k display with an excellent color gamut, and is optionally available with one of the fastest LTE modems, making it a great choice for mobile power-users.

The ThinkPad P15 Gen 1 is the successor to the P53, and it’s no less powerful. It comes with the latest Intel i9 eight core (Comet Lake-H) CPU, 32 GB of RAM, and a powerful Nvidia Quadro RTX 3000. It’s very upgradeable with up to 128 GB of RAM and 4 TB of SSD, and it comes with the same, excellent 4k display as the P1. The P15 is the most powerful laptop in our current lineup.
